Chrysler LHS Windshield Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What Are the Steps and Precautions for Installing a Windshield on Chrysler LHS?
    A:
During the first 24 hours, the urethane adhesive must cure properly to function in an accident, so the car should be kept parked for this period. Make certain structural integrity by always using the glass cleaner, glass preparation solvent, glass primer, Pvc primer and pinch weld primer from the maker of the adhesive system. Adhesives used by technicians on vehicles should match Fmvss 212 rules and work well with all applicable primers and cleaners. Remove the inside rear view mirror, cowl cover and drip rail Weather Strips before you access the screws for the windshield side moldings. Carefully cut the urethane around the windshield with a knife or use a pneumatic cutting device if you can; afterward, take out the windshield. When installing, open the left front door glass so air doesn't enter the cabin and give the urethane at least a whole day to cure. Swap out the center lower foam block, place the replacement windshield in its spot and make sure it's lined up against the pinch weld fence. Set your markings on the windshield above the support spacers and wipe down the inside of the windshield with glass cleaner. Put molding down next to the top edge, apply Glass Prep and top it off with Glass Primer, giving some time for everything to dry. Remove all the urethane you can, making sure not to harm the paint, then add pinch weld primer on top. Add a 10 mm bead of urethane along the windshield fence, lay the windshield over the opening and position it until the combined glue seal forms. Remove the extra urethane, apply masking tape to keep the moldings together and fit the A-pillar moldings, cowl cover, inside rear view support bracket and mirror. Remove the tape after the surface is dry and test the repair with water to be sure it's fixed.
