You should begin by removing the negative
Battery Cable to work on the
Camshaft oil seal. For a properly sized cylinder head, remove the front
Timing Cover, align the camshaft gear and crankshaft gear timing marks to TDC, then eliminate the
Timing Belt and the right camshaft sprocket. Next, remove the camshaft thrust plate from the rear of the cylinder head, after that remove the cylinder head cover and
Rocker Arm assembly. Position the camshaft so that its rearmost end is out of the head by about 3.5 inches, without scratching the cylinder head's seal or camshaft journal surfaces. Take off the camshaft oil seal by using a suitable driver. To remove the left cylinder head, cut off the negative battery connection, drain the cooling system, repeat the steps for the front timing cover, align timing marks, take off the rear timing cover, cover of the cylinder head, rocker arms and thrust plate for the camshaft. As before, slide the camshaft backward and out of the cylinder head around 3.5 inches and take out the camshaft oil seal without making any damage. To set the camshaft seal onto the cylinder head correctly, place it in place and then use the tool MD-998306 to tap it in. Brush some clean engine oil on the camshaft oil seal lip and Special Tool 6788 Seal Protector Sleeve before installing the sleeve on the camshaft. Forward the camshaft and insert the seal protector around the shaft, pushing it up until the camshaft is seated. Then, take away the assembly sleeve. In the next step, install the camshaft thrust plate, camshaft sprocket and the timing belt. On the left cylinder head, slip the camshaft seal over the camshaft and tap it firmly into position with MD-998306, smear some engine oil on the seal lip and sleeve and push the camshaft into place as before. Following this, place the rear timing belt cover, the camshaft gear and match the timing marks and install the timing belt, rocker arm assembly, cylinder head cover, front timing belt cover and vibration damper. After that, fill the coolant and attach the negative battery cable again.
