Chrysler Prowler Brake Line Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Repair a Brake Line Using Double Wall Steel Tubing on Chrysler Prowler?
    A:
When repairing a brake tube made from a material other than nylon coating, use double wall 4.75 mm (3/16 inch) steel tubing alongside the proper tube nuts. Trim the tubing just beyond the damaged part using a brake tubing cutter and clean any sharp edges on the inside with a reamer to get a proper square finish for the end. Before you flare the connection, put the tube nut onto the tubing. A double inverted flare is created with the Flaring Tool Kit or the Special Tool C-4254. Open the wing nuts on the flaring bar, push the tubing through the appropriate hole and model the length by using the flare adapter. Put the wing nuts on the wing at firm settings, place the flare adapter stem into the tubing and position the flaring yoke above it. Push the flaring tip down with the screw until the adapter is level with the flaring bar, then back off the screw and remove the adapter. Twist the screw against the center hole in the bell-shaped tubing, press the metal together to form a double inverted flare and open the screw to remove the bar and yoke. Available tubing that works for ISO flares is metric Size 4.75 mm and you should use the Snap-On Flaring Tool TFM-428 or a tool of matching quality. Push the jaws apart, use the assembly to position the tubing and then press the jaws to hold it firmly. On the yoke assembly, fit the adapter that matches the tubing, lubricate the join and place the yoke so it's centered over the tubing end. Screw the adapter in as it gets flush, untwist the screw, remove the flaring tool and then unscrew the flaring bar assembly to get out the flared tube.
