Chrysler Prowler Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain a Brake Booster on Chrysler Prowler?
    A:
First remove any vacuum from the system by pumping the brake pedal with the engine off and only stop when the pedal is firm. Take the primary brake tube and the secondary brake tube away from the master cylinder outlet ports and then plug each end. Spray the attachment area between the master cylinder and vacuum booster with Mopar Brake Parts Cleaner and then clean it. Unscrew both nuts attaching the master cylinder to the vacuum booster and pull the master cylinder away. Remove the two support struts from the bracket above the vacuum booster and slide the bolts on the other ends out of the way. Take off the vacuum hose from the Intake Manifold and remove it from the vacuum booster check valve, leaving the check valve attracted to the booster. To get to the steering column more easily, remove the knee blocker trim panel. Look at the part that joins the vacuum booster input rod to the brake pedal and pull off the retaining clip using a small screwdriver, throwing it away and replacing it with a new clip when you reassemble the vehicle. Carefully remove the two nuts near the right-hand side mounting wiring harness connector bracket and the four screws joining the vacuum booster to the body panel beneath the dash. Pull the vacuum booster forward and lift the end facing the engine toward the top to remove it. To install the new bracket, unbolt each nut in reverse and tighten them all; make sure the nuts at the wiring harness junction connector bracket are tightened to 29 Nm (250 in. lbs.). Ensure that the input rod chamfer of the vacuum booster will contact the brake pedal arm after you install Lubriplate or an equivalent at the pedal pin where it meets the input rod. Put the new retaining clip onto the flat side of the vacuum booster input rod. Rebolts the knee blocker trim panel and then fits the vacuum hose into the check valve and into the intake manifold. Take off the old vacuum seal from the master cylinder and set it aside and replace it with a new one. Put the master cylinder on the vacuum booster and ensure the push rod is flush with the master cylinder piston. After that, tighten two nuts on it to 25 Nm (225 in. lbs.). Join the brake tubes back to the master cylinder and use 17 Nm (145 in. lbs.) of torque to tighten them and adjust the brake fluid level if necessary. Lift the brake pedal until it is solid, if not, force the brake bleeder valves and inspect for any leaks. Ensure there are no brake fluid leaks, attach the support struts back into place and fasten and secure the nuts and bolts, next test the operation of the brake lamp switch and make necessary adjustments.
