Chrysler Prowler Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain the Parking Brake Cable on Chrysler Prowler?
    A:
Parking brake cable service begins with removing the shifter's shift knob which is achieved with a hex head set screw located on the front side. After that, lift up the shift bezel from its spot and separate the shift bezel wiring harness from the vehicle wiring harness. First detach the screw holding the center console onto the bracket, then remove the four screws that connect the storage tray and lid to the console and finally lift off both the tray and the lid. For clearance, pull up the park brake hand lever and then lift off the center console after which you can lower the park brake lever handle. Pull the park brake lever output cable up until a 3/16 in. drill bit can be put through the handle and gear to secure the mechanism and free the cables. Both the rear park brake cables should be removed from the park brake cable equalizer. If cable replacement is necessary on the side with the park brake, push the seat forward and tilt it back and fold up the carpeting behind the seat to see the park brake cable. Take out the outdoor temp sensor nut from the stud in the floorpan that connects to the park brake cable routing clip. Collapse the retaining fingers on the cable end by using Remover, Special Tool 8182 and a 1/2 inch wrench on the park brake cable. Lift the vehicle, then remove the center cap with a trim stick, take out the rear tire and wheel and continue this process for the other tires and wheels. Separate the park brake cable from the park brake shoe actuator and the caliper adapter at the back of the caliper connector by pushing a 1/2 inch box wrench onto the end of the retainer. Detach the nut from the routing clip that's attached to the bodystud and pull the sealing grommet and cable out through the body hole. Coat the sealing grommet with Mopar Silicone Spray Lube and slide in the park brake cable so that the grommet is pushed in while installing the cable into the hole in the body. Put the cable into the caliper adapter, with the locking tabs expanded and then connect it to the park brake shoe actuator. Attach the routing clip to the stud fixed in the body and tighten the nut. Place the rear wheel and tire back onto the vehicle, secure the wheel stud nuts in a cross pattern to half the required torque and then fully tighten to 135 Nm (100 ft.lbs.). Put on the center cap, lower the vehicle and remove the sealing grommet and park brake cable into the hole below. Lead the cable under the carpet toward the bracket on the floor pan, put it inside the bracket with the tabs spread and use a nut to fasten the routing clip. Link the cables at the rear park brake to the lever, pull up the carpet and adjust the seat. Take the locking pin from the park brake lever and pull the lever to adjust the handlebars, cycle it again and find out if all moving parts are unobstructed. Raise the car, fully engage the park brake lever and add the center console. When the lever is fully down, attach the four screws connecting the console, storage tray and lid to the under-Seat box, then one last screw to the front part of the console. Place the wiring harness on the shift bezel, lower the bezel so it snaps into place and mount the shift knob before firmly tightening its screw.
