Ac camshaft controls the opening & closing of valves in Chrysler PT Cruiser vehicles to enable the intake of air/fuel mix and expulsion of exhaust gases. The PT Cruiser camshaft is made of iron or steel, depending on the patterns Chrysler use, the configurations are Over Head Valve (OHV), Single Over Head Cam (SOHC), and Double Over Head Cam (DOHC). It said each type impacts on engine performance in various ways, DOHC configurations enables for different control of intake as well as exhaust valves. Chrysler PT Cruiser camshafts can be standard ones made at the manufacturer or they can be of the ones where there are performance camshafts which can improve power and efficiency of the car. These performance options tend to provide higher levels and longer period of lift enhancing airflow and power at high rates of RPMs. Other parameters including LSA, influence the torque and idle quality and this means that one can obtain preferred performance depending on h/She's usage of the vehicle. Altogether, the camshaft plays an important role in the engine dynamics of the Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Chrysler PT Cruiser Camshaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove a Camshaft on Chrysler PT Cruiser?
    A:
You should take off the cylinder head cover, remove the Camshaft Position Sensor and then take off the camshaft target magnet. The next step includes taking out the Timing Belt and then the camshaft sprockets and the rear timing belt cover. Because the bearing caps are marked, start by taking off the ones that are outside. Unscrew the fasteners on the camshaft bearing cap according to the instructions, taking out just one camshaft at a time, because camshafts cannot be used interchangeably; the intake cam number 6 thrust bearing has a wider face spacing. Know which camshafts go where since they cannot be interchanged in the head. The final step is to remove the camshafts from the cylinder head and if Rocker Arms are coming off, label them so they go back in their initial positions.
  • Q: How to Install a Camshaft on Chrysler PT Cruiser?
    A:
Installation of the camshaft should take place as the Pistons are fully retracted. You should start with lubricating every camshaft bearing journal, Rocker Arm and camshaft lobe. Put all your rocker arms back in place where they were if you are using them again. Set the camshafts on the bearing journals in the cylinder head and install caps Nos. 2 - 5 on the left cylinder head and right No. 6 on the right cylinder head, applying 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) of torque following the correct order of M6 fasteners. Distribute Mopar(R) Gasket Maker on bearing caps No. 1 and No. 6, then put the caps into place and screw the M8 fasteners tightly to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.). You should put the bearing end caps on before you add the seals. Apply CV-998306 when you are installing new camshaft oil seals. Afterward, fit the camshaft target magnet and insert the Camshaft Position Sensor into the spark plug hole (3), then install the cylinder head cover. Next, place and anchor the Timing Belt rear cover, tightening fasteners 1 and 2 and mount the Timing Belt Tensioner (3). After that, screw the Camshaft Sprocket Holder 6847 (1) in place and use the timing belt to complete the installation.
