Chrysler PT Cruiser Clutch Disc Parts and Q&A

  • Q:
How to service and repair the Clutch Disc on Chrysler PT Cruiser?
    A:
To service and repair the clutch disc, remove the transaxle, pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts (turn counter-clockwise), and the pressure plate and clutch disc from the flywheel. Take Off the Flywheel as Defined by the Manual. Check the release lever and bearing and replace it as needed. During installation, inspect the clutch release bearing and lever for excessive wear, replacing as necessary. Scrub the face of the flywheel and pressure plate to remove all oil, dirt, and grease. Check for the side of the clutch disc marked "FLYWHEEL SIDE" and apply a very thin film of grease to the splines in the clutch disc hub. Secure the flywheel to the crankshaft of the engine and bolt the flywheel-on, and tighten to 95Nm (70 ft. lbs.). Following that, the clutch disc is placed to the flywheel. Subsequently, install the clutch pressure plate, finger tightening the pressure plate bolts. Utilize tool 6724 to center the clutch disc on the flywheel. Tighten clutch pressure plate bolts in a cross-pattern to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) with a torque wrench.
