Make sure to scrutinize the outer CV joint assembly and its interconnected points for excess wear; if they're worn down, you should replace the whole halfshaft assembly since you can't replace single parts. Slide the new clamp onto the interconnecting shaft before putting on the outer CV joint assembly sealing boot, making sure the raised bead inside the seal is in its groove on the shaft as you install it.   You should first unfasten the halfshaft from underneath the vehicle to service and repair the boot. Release the two clamps retaining the inner tripod joint boot, slide the boots down the interconnecting shaft and then remove the boot from the tripod housing. Monkey spiders should be removed over a towel or with the rollers supported so they don't drop out. Pull out the slide of the tripod joint housing and then remove the snap ring retaining the spider assembly to the interconnecting shaft. If you cannot pull off the spider by hand, carefully tap it with a brass drift so it does not touch the outer tripod bearings. Inspect all of the spider assembly, together with the tripod and join housing and the interconnecting shaft for too much wear. Should you find signs of wear, replace the halfshaft as none of the components can be serviced. You should use a silicone rubber sealing boot for high-temperature installations and a Hytrel plastic boot for standard conditions. Place the inner tripod joint seal boot retaining clamp on the shaft and slide the new seal boot over the shaft so that the raised bead sits inside the groove. Place the spider's assembly into the shaft in a way so that the assembled chamfer faces the shaft, pushing it all the way in so the retaining snap ring locks in place. Pour some of the grease from the seal into the tripod base and fill the rest in the sealing boot. Sit the tripod housing so that it is above the spider assembly, then slide both over the shaft. Attach the seal of the inner tripod joint to the shaft connecting them and use the C-4975-A crimping tool, so the seal is neither stretched nor dimpled. Remove the tightened inner tripod joint assembly by venting it gently with a trim stick, so the sealing boot is not damaged. Then, before pulling out the trim stick, check that the joint sealing boot edge length is correct on the halfshaft.
