Be sure to release the fuel pressure, move the vehicle to a ventilated location away from flame or spark and avoid smoking whenever servicing the
Fuel Level Sensor. With the fuel filler cap removed, do the Fuel System Pressure Release. After that, remove the air cleaner lid, take the inlet air temperature sensor and makeup air hose off and pull out the negative
Battery Cable. Support the vehicle on jacks and then take out the
Fuel Tank. Carefully wipe debris and dirt from the top of the fuel tank where the fuel pump module is located, so you avoid having this dirt enter the fuel system and potentially harm engine parts. Take off the lines attached to the fuel filter. Be sure to mark the place of the fuel pump module on the top of the tank, ensuring the module is put back exactly where it was to prevent problems with the fuel gauge. Take out Special Tool #9340 and remove the lock ring to uninstall the pump module, as the fuel reservoir may spill while you do this. Remove the fuel pump module and seal from within the tank and get rid of the seal.
