How to Install the Rear Crossmember and Its Associated Components on Chrysler Sebring?

Clamp the rear suspension crossmember down the center of a trans jack and secure the crossmember with a few straps. Place and fit the crossmember and attach it to the rear frame rails with nuts and studs, tightening each to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.). After that, fit the rear suspension bracket and tighten the nut until it reaches 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.). Stabilizer bar and bolts are to be fitted to the rear suspension crossmember and tightened to 24.5 Nm (18 ft. lbs.), next the sensor bracket should be bolted in and tightened to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.). First, get rid of the supporting wire from under the knuckle and afterwards, fit the lower control arm in place. Next, join the upper control arm to the rear suspension crossmember and tighten all the bolts to 108.5 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). Realign the toe link cam with the line you made during removal and install the resulting bolt and nut, tighten them so the torque tests out to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) or about 3.5 to 3.7 kg (8 to 8.3 lb. force). If your car comes with the rear drive module, install it now. First install the exhaust, then put on the tire and wheel and make sure the wheel nuts are tightened to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). After that, put in the upper suspension bracket nuts to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.), install the spare tire and check and reset the rear wheel alignment according to your preferences.

How to remove a Rear Crossmember on Chrysler Sebring?

Before handling the rear cross-member, you should take off the spare tire first from the vehicle. After that, remove the upper suspension bracket nuts and secure the vehicle on jack stands or a frame contact hoist. After that, take off the tires and rear wheels. If there is one installed, uninstall the rear drive module. Add a mark to the toe link cam, remove the bolt and nut attaching the toe link to the rear suspension member and mark it with a small blob of paint. Turn the nut at the knuckle and take out the bolt connecting the upper control arm to the cross-member in the rear suspension. Take out the lower control arm and use tough cord or wire to hold the knuckle and its parts in place. Unfasten the bracket bolt on the wheel speed sensor and take off the ground strap from the muffler. Also, take out the extension pipe, muffler and tail pipe from the car. Unscrew the stabilizer bar bolts from the rear suspension cross-member and undo the lower nut that secures the rear suspension bracket to both the frame member and the cross-member. Set up a transmission jack on the rear suspension cross-member's center and unscrew the four bolts holding it to the chassis rails to let the suspension cross-member relax down while you remove it.
