To install the rear drum brake shoes, lubricate the eight contact areas between the shoe and support plate and between the shoe and anchor with the proper special Mopar(R) Brake Lubricant or equivalent. Subsequently, the leading brake shoe is installed on the brake support plate, followed by the leading brake shoe hold down spring and pin. Fix the park brake actuator strut on the leading brake shoe then install the park brake actuator lever on the strut. The automatic adjuster screw is to be installed on the leading brake shoe. The trailing brake shoe is to be positioned on the park brake actuating lever and strut and secured to the brake support plate. First install the vehicle brake shoe hold down pin and spring to the trailing brake shoe. Then install the upper brake shoe to brake shoe return spring. Before attaching the tension clip to the upper return spring, ensure that it is exclusively located on the threaded part of the automatic adjuster assembly. Fit both brake shoes with brake shoe lower return springs; fit the leading brake shoe with the automatic adjustment lever. Refit the close spring. Fit the actuating spring to the automatic adjustment lever and to the leading brake shoe assembly, ensuring the automatic adjuster lever is in positive contact with the star wheel on the automatic adjuster assembly. Once all components are properly installed, remove the locking pliers from the front park brake cable, and adjust the brake shoe assemblies for brake drum installation clearance. Place the rear brake drums on the hubs, adjust the rear brake shoes, then place the wheel and tire assembly on. In the proper sequence, first tighten the wheel mounting stud nuts to half specified. Then repeat this in the proper sequence to the full specification of 135 Nm(100 ft. lbs.). Lower the vehicle and push down the parking brake lever (pedal) once and release it to automatically remove the slack and adjust the parking brake cables correctly. Finally, road test the vehicle while the automatic adjuster continues the brake adjustment during the road test.
