In Dodge Avenger vehicles, the piston is very crucial because its an essential working part of the Internal Combustion Engine whose primary function is to translate the energy generated through the combustion process into mechanical force required to move the car. Dodge Avenger piston is designed to withstand high pressure and temperature and some of the special features include cooling cavities which are supplied with oil. This design does not only raise the efficiency of this type of piston but also helps in increasing the durability of the piston. In the past years, Dodge Avenger has used different types of pistons depending on the kind of engine and performance that the car manufacturer intended. For example, trunk pistons are employed in both petrol and diesel engines of this model of car, the Dodge Avenger, in order to offer certain requisite support to side forces as well as the incorporation of oil rings for enhanced lubrication purposes. However, racing pistons, which are thin and strong, are used in Dodge Avenger with higher performances and rev scrutaining to endure racing performance. Every piston type fitted in the Dodge Avenger automobile, including trunk pistons and racing pistons, is uniquely designed depending on the engine demand so as to balance between its weight, strength, and efficiency to enhance the car's performance and longevity. This kind of selection and design of pistons are testify the important of pistons to the working and durability of Dodge Avenger engines.

Dodge Avenger Piston Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace the Connecting Rod in a Piston Engine on Dodge Avenger?
    A:
Apply piston rings first, making sure that the top and second compression gaps are uneven with the oil ring rail so they are not lined up. Check that the oil ring expander ends are joined nicely and that the rail spacing is right as you look down from the top of the piston. Now, dip the piston in clean oil, slip the ring compressor onto the piston and be sure to place the arrow on the piston to the front of the engine. With the Crankshaft turned, center the connecting rod journal in the middle of the cylinder bore and add a bit of clean oil to the journal. Take the suitable Rod Bearing from the crankshaft nose, then set the connecting rod upper bearing half inside the connecting rod. Place the ring compressor on the top of the cylinder to tap the piston into place and move the connecting rod into contact with the journal. The connecting rod cap bolts must be replaced instead of reused; then, coat the oil on new bolts and insert the rod cap with the lower bearing and finish by gripping the bolts with your finger. Hold each bolt for cap assembly in turn and tighten the connecting rod bolts first to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) then 90 degrees more. Check the connecting rod side clearance using a feeler gauge and after that, put in the ladder frame, oil pump/balance shaft carrier assembly, Oil Pan and cylinder head. Next, fit the engine lift chain, link the transaxle to the engine and bolt the engine into its place.
  • Q: How to Install Piston and Connecting Rod Assemblies on Dodge Avenger?
    A:
For the first step, place the piston rings properly on the piston so that the top compression ring and the second compression ring are unevenly aligned and not on top of the oil ring rail gap. Make sure that the ends of the oil ring expander fit tightly and the rail gaps are where they should be as seen when looking at the piston from above. Place the piston head and rings into engine oil and after that cover the ring compressor over the piston; check that the ring positions are not altered during the next step. Facing the piston's directional arrow toward the front of the engine is necessary. Loosen the caps on either side of the piston and rotate the engine so that the connecting rod journal is lined up with the cylinder bore. Make sure to smear the journal with clean oil. Pick out Rod Bearings that fit according to the sizes noted on the Crankshaft nose. After installing the connecting rod upper bearing half, put in the ring compressor. Stick the hammer handle down and move the rods until the connecting rod is centered on the connecting rod journal. When replacing the bolts in the rod caps, start by coating their threads in clean engine oil, as new bolts are needed. Set the lower bearing half into the end of the connecting rod and secure it by tightening each of the bolts just enough to keep them from turning, doing this for every bolt before tightening each one. First tighten the connecting rod bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) and then add an extra 90°. Measure the side clearance of the connecting rods by using a feeler gauge. Now, put in the ladder frame, oil pump/balance shaft carrier assembly, Oil Pan and cylinder head. After that, hook the engine lift chain, assemble the transaxle to the engine and attach the engine.
