Tying the steering gear to the steering knuckle, Dodge Caliber Tie Rod allows steering wheel input to turn the wheels. The Tie Rod serves as a link in the steering system and allows the rotational force of the steering gear to be transformed into lateral side-to-side motion in order for the wheels to pivot. Every Tie Rod assembly utilizes a ball joint wherein a ball stud resides in a lubricated socket, allowing the linkage to articulate as the suspension moves while transmitting steering force. A rubber boot is made to surround the joint and keep dirt out while retaining the lubricant so that the joint remains tight. The inner Tie Rod end of rack and pinion systems with thread onto the rack; and its pivot within the socket. The outer end fastens to the steering knuckle via a tapered bore which is pinned in place with a nut. Good working Tie Rods connections prevent excessive steering system free play while promoting wheel alignment and handling for Dodge Caliber. Regularly check the Dodge steering linkage for looseness, worn sockets, or dust boots to ensure safe operation and responsive Caliber steering. Reliable Caliber steering control is supported by a good Tie Rod.

Dodge Caliber Tie Rod Parts and Q&A

  • Q:
How to Service and Repair a Tie Rod on Dodge Caliber?
    A:
To change the inner tie rod, remove the outer tie rod, then remove the tie rod jam nut from the inner tie rod. Next, disconnect the clamp securing the bellows to the inner tie rod and the clamp securing the bellows to the steering gear body, then detach the bellows. Then, remove the travel restrictor from inner tie rod. Employ the correct inner tie rod removal tool on the hex of the inner tie rod. Do not attempt to hit the inner tie rod with a hammer or heat it up with a blowtorch if it cannot be removed with the tools recommended by the manufacturer, as this may damage the steering gear and require full steering gear replacement. The steering gear must be unthreaded and inner tie rod pulled out.
