When placing
Piston rings, be sure the mark found on the faces of the upper and intermediate piston rings faces upward, toward the top of the piston. Set up the oil ring expander, then install the upper and lower oil ring side rails after that. For the side rails, lie one end between the piston ring groove and the oil ring expander, press the side rail in place by hand and ensure it is situated correctly without the use of a piston ring expander. After that, place in the No. 2 piston ring and then position the No. 1 ring. Adjust the piston ring end gaps so that the oil ring expander gap is at least 45° from the side rail gaps and remove it from where it can be on the center of the piston pin or thrust direction, since properly spacing the gaps is important for good oil control.
