Removing the steering column depends on the front wheels being in line with the car's center before beginning. Take the negative cable off the battery and move it away from the terminal. Turn the cylinder for the key to lock, take out the key and turn the wheel to the left by half a turn to secure the steering column. Lift up the module by removing the 3 bolts connecting it to the steering wheel. Take off the clips holding the wiring for the
Air Bag, horn switch and speed control to the frame and remove the routing clip from the wiring harness. For those remote radio controls, simply depress the tang and move the connector apart from the
Clock Spring. Unscrew the steering wheel retaining nut and steering wheel damper, but never bump or hammer the column or shaft. Only insert the steering wheel puller bolts halfway into the steering wheel to stop the Clock Spring from getting damaged. After removing the steering wheel, unlock the Clock Spring, rotate it clockwise if it's locked, three counterclockwise turns if not, making sure the cables are at the top and lock the Clock Spring. Continue by rotating the Clock Spring a half turn to the left which will line up the wiring at the bottom of the assembly. Join the master splines from the steering wheel with the steering shaft and install the wheel, taking care to position all wiring from the Clock Spring where it should go. Look for damage on the steering wheel damper before installing it and then place and install it on the steering wheel. Release the steering wheel, put on the nut an additional 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.), join the Clock Spring wire's pin to the remote radio lead, lay out the air bag, horn switch and speed control wires and attach the wire clip to the air bag module studs. Then, connect the air bag module to the steering wheel, secure it with 3 bolts, tighten them to a torque of 11 Nm (100 inch lbs.) and link the negative cable with the battery.
