- Q: How to Remove and Replace a Front Shock Absorber on Dodge Challenger?A:If you have a shock tower cap, disconnect it from the top of the shock assembly at the beginning of the process. Then, get rid of the three nuts that keep the shock assembly attached to the shock tower. After you support the vehicle, get rid of the wheel mounting nuts and pull off the wheel and tire set. Take the nut that holds the stabilizer link to the shock assembly off and remove the link ball joint stem from the shock assembly. Take out the bolt holding the shock assembly to the lower Control Arm. Cut away the cable routing clip that is holding the wheel speed sensor cable to the brake tube bracket. Back off the knuckle bolt that holds the upper ball joint stud until it touches the knuckle, so it doesn't get bent during removal. First, apply Ball Joint Remover 9360 to separate the upper ball joint stud from the knuckle and after that remove the nut from the end of the stud. Tip just the top of the knuckle outward, avoid stretching the brake hose and take out the shock from the car to finish.
- Q: How to Install a Shock Absorber on the Front on Dodge Challenger?A:When installing the front shock absorber, insert the shock assembly into the front suspension into the reverse order during separate removal. It is also important that the nut is tightened in order to prevent damaging there the ball stud joint. Slide the upper Ball Joint stud on the hole in the top of the knuckle and fit in nut 4 and tighten it against the hex wrench held on the end of the ball joint stud and the wrench turned on the nut. A torque wrench with a crow foot wrench should be used to nut tightening to 47 Nm and a further 90 degree turn. Plug in the wheel speed sensor cable routing clip in the bracket of the brake tube. Put in the lower shock mounting bolt to mount the shock assembly to the lower Control Arm, but do not tighten it now. Place the stabilizer link ball joint stem into the shock assembly through the front and place in the nut that fastens the link to the shock assembly and tighten by holding the stud on the ball joint as one rotates the nut. This nut is tightened by using 128 Nm on the torque wrench using a crow foot wrench. Attach the tire, and wheel assembly to the car and drop the car. Lastly apply the three nuts that hold the shock assembly to the shock tower and tighten them down to 27 Nm and lines up the shock tower cap with the shock mounting nuts and press it in forcedly placing it in position.
