Before installing the camshaft, take off the
Timing Chain and set the cylinder heads without moving the camshaft or
Crankshaft until you find the proper crank position. Assembly of the roller chain for engines is done by lining up the plated links on the cams with the timing dot on the camshaft sprockets. With silent chain engines, bring the marked links in the chain to the timing dot on the camshaft sprockets. If the tensioner is squeezed and locked in place, go to the following step. To lock the tensioner, hold it firmly in a soft jaw vise, slowly release the tension, insert a lock pin you made into the holes and remove the tensioner from the vise. Fit the compressed and locked chain tensioner between the camshafts and chain. Rotate the cams in either type of engine so the dots and plated/marked links are positioned at 12:00 O'clock. Set the cams on the cylinder head and make certain the
Rocker Arms are in the right position too. After installation, tighten the camshaft bearing caps at the same position as before and tighten the bolts of the cam bearing caps gradually to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Put in the secondary chain tensioner bolts and tighten them to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.), after which remove the locking pin from the secondary tensioners. Confirm the clearence between the camshafts and after that, install the primary timing chain.
