Before removing the crankshaft, drain engine oil and take off the
Oil Filter. After that, take out the engine from the car and attach it to an engine stand. First, get rid of the
Oil Pan and oil pick-up tube, then the idler pulley bracket for the accessory
Drive Belt, the upper
Intake Manifold, cylinder head covers,
Timing Chain cover, primary timing chain, crankshaft sprocket, oil pump, crankshaft rear oil seal retainer and windage tray. Turn the crankshaft slowly until the cap on the connecting rod can be removed and remember to mark each bearing cap with an ink marker or scribe tool since they're not the same. Remove the caps from the connecting rod bearings with care so you don't harm the crankshaft bearings, then remove the bolts and tie-bolts that hold the main bearing caps in place before you take them out. Be careful not to harm the crankshaft's bearing surfaces when you remove it. Before installation, ensure the slots in the block and main caps are lined up with the tangs, use engine oil on the top half of the main bearing and fit the crankshaft so that the thrust washer's oiled side points toward the thrust surface when installed. Install the front thrust washer by pushing the crankshaft forward and then fit the rear thrust washer after moving the crankshaft to the rear, greasing the lower main bearings with oil before fitting the main bearing caps. Apply engine oil to the main bearign cap bolts and fasten them starting with the inner ones to 20 Nm plus 1/4. Check the amount of movement at the crankshaft ends, install the connecting rods and take side clearance measurements. Set the windage tray with the slots on the right side of the engine, oil the nuts and tighten them to 27 Nm and turn them a further 1/4 of a turn. Attach the main cap tie bolts and tighten them to 28 Nm, next fit the rear crankshaft oil seal retainer and oil seal assembly, oil pump assembly, oil pick-up tube with its O-ring and oil pump access hole cover and tighten all the relevant bolts again to 28 Nm. After that, secure the oil pan gasket, add the oil pan, put in the oil filter, crankshaft sprocket, timing chain, timing chain cover, cylinder head covers, oil dipstick tube and assemble the engine. Finish by pouring in the proper oil and coolant, begin the engine and check for leaks.
