How to Service and Repair an Automatic Transmission Shifter on Dodge Dakota?

When working on the gear shift lever of an A/T, first remove the knee blocker and unscrew the steering column bolts a little so the column can be lowered without complete removal. After that, unscrew the upper and lower shrouds, detach the overdrive switch wiring, remove the shift cable from the pin and unsnap the cable adjusting clip. Open the gear shift lever and take out the screws holding it in place. Attach the gear shift lever to the steering column assembly and tighten the screws to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.) while it is in this position. Link the cable shifter to the sticky-out pin while the bicycle is in PARK and once done, tighten the rubber clip on the cable at the other end. Install the overdrive switch wiring, fit the laminated shrouds into place, torque the column mounts to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.) and secure the knee blocker.
