Dodge Dakota Clutch Fork Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Install and Inspect a Clutch Fork on Dodge Dakota?
    A:
Before mounting the clutch release fork, review the back of the transmission front bearing retainer (3) and change the retainer if the release bearing slide surface is worn or cracked. After that, examine both the release fork (1) and fork pivot (2) to see if the pivot is fully intact and check that nothing is worn or bent on the fork. A bent or damaged release fork retainer spring should be changed. Coat the Pilot Bearing (5), splines on the input shaft (4), bearing retainer slide (3), fork pivot (2) and release fork (1) pivot surface with Mopar(R) high temperature bearing grease. After that, fit the release fork and bearing onto the drive shaft and finally install the transmission or transfer case.
