Whenever you service the A/C refrigerant system, check that the refrigerant oil is set to the recommended level, as not doing so might harm the A/C and possibly the compressor. Only use Mopar(R) ND-11 Polyester (POE) oil in your HEV model; if you use Polyalkylene Glycol (PAG), it can get into the refrigerant system and cause damage. If you have used the recovery/recycling and charging machine earlier on a non-HEV, clean the hoses with a proper solution or use an HEV-appropriate system. Always change out the O-ring seals and gaskets when you disconnect a refrigerant line, to prevent leaks. Take out the tape or plugs from the ends of the evaporator tube and expansion valves, apply some clean refrigerant oil to the new O-ring seals and attach them to the tube fittings, only with the proper, specified R-134a system O-ring seals in place. Place the A/C expansion valve onto the evaporator tube tapping block and tighten it to the block using two bolts at 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.). Be sure the A/C suction line, A/C liquid line and expansion valve are correctly positioned before fastening, so the sealing rings are not damaged. Replace the front
Wheelhouse splash shield and lower the vehicle to its normal postion. HEV models require the battery system to be reconnected using the service disconnect, while in gasoline-only cars, just hook up the negative cable on the battery. Remove the refrigerant from the system, top up the refrigerant oil and add refrigerant as may be required.
