The first step in working on the
Antenna cable is to disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Pull the plastic cover away from the right cowl side inner panel to find the antenna coaxial cable connector, then remove the connector by twisting the connector halves while pulling apart the cable, making sure you don't handle the cable directly. Release the antenna coaxial cable from the retaining clips underneath the lower support molding, from the heater-A/C housing and from the two inside retainers above the right front fender. Strip the
Antenna Mast off the antenna body, unfasten the nut on top of the antenna cap with a suitable wrench and take off the adapter mounted to the fender. Guide the antenna body downward through the opening in the top of the fender, bringing the antenna body together with its cable up to the right cowl side outer panel of the front door opening and unlock the antenna's grommet at this upper hole first, before pulling it through to the front of the car. Take out the antenna body and cable from inside and outside the vehicle. Again, unplug the negative battery cable, go underneath the
Glove Box and release the connector on the instrument panel antenna cable. Bind a suitable amount of cord or twine to the part of the antenna cable connector on the instrument panel for use when you're installing. Under the far left side of the instrument panel, extract the cable from its mounting clip, let the box down before reaching in and separating the cable from its base. Take out the radio receiver from the instrument panel and withdraw the antenna cable out of the radio receiver hole. Disconnect the cord or twine from the connector of the instrument panel antenna cable, replacing it with the cable and detach the cable from the antenna. For installation, put the antenna body and cable through the opening between the right cowl outer panel and the fender, poking the antenna coaxial cable into the passenger compartment through the right cowl side hole and fit the antenna coaxial cable grommet into the hole. Guide the base of the antenna inside the mounting hole at the top of the fender, cover the antenna base with the adapter and tighten the screw with an Antenna Nut Wrench (Special Tool C-4816) to 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.). Attach and screw in the antenna mast to the antenna body so that it holds 3.3 Nm (30 in. lbs.) of tension, secure the antenna coaxial cable retainers on the right cowl side inner panel and the right front fender and put the cable into the retainer clips below the instrument panel and behind the heater-A/C system. Bring the antenna coaxial cable connector back under the instrument panel, place the trim cover onto the right end of the inner cowl panel and finish by connecting the negative battery cable. Pull the antenna cable into the radio receiver opening under the instrument panel by holding the bottom end of the cord or twine attached to the existing antenna connector. Put the radio receiver onto the instrument panel, pull the signal antenna cable through the dashboard opening so it is gripped by the support bar and attach the glove box to the instrument panel. The cable connecting the instrument panel to the antenna retainer needs to be moved to the clip under the lower instrument panel inboard of the glove box opening. After that, unstrap the cord or twine from half of the instrument panel connector, fasten the antenna connector cable back under the instrument panel after the glove box and then put the negative battery cable back on the post.
