Before working on the trunk or liftgate hinge, take off the liftgate upper trim as well as the D-pillar trim. Fold the liftgate back against the roof with a lifting device and mark the hinge spots on both parts using a wax crayon or an equivalent. After that, take out the liftgate support cylinder and the screws connecting the liftgate hinge to the frame. With care, lift down the headliner to get to the bolts at the liftgate hinge and then pull out the hinge. If desired, paint the newly purchased hinge before you attach it to the door. Tilt up the liftgate, line up the hinge with the marks you made and attach the bolts to make sure the hinge is hooked onto the liftgate. Be sure to slide a bead of 3M-Drip Check Sealant over the hinge bolt threads. Put the hinge where the marks are on the roof and use bolts to secure it to the panel. Attach the support cylinder under the liftgate, lift halfway out the support, then reset the D-pillar trim and liftgate trim in place.
