The first steps for servicing and repairing the alternator are to remove the negative
Battery Cable and jack up the car. Remove the lower plastic splash shield and take out the transmission cooler, putting it somewhere safe for now. After that, take off the lower radiator crossmember support and put a jackstand below the radiator to support it. Roll the adjusting T-bolt and pivot bolt out slightly, but do not take them off and next remove the
Drive Belt from the generator. Remove the terminal and plug from the generator field circuit, remove the terminal nut and wire from the B+ post and then unscrew the pivot bolt, making certain the spacer is not lost. With care, extract the generator from the box. When setting up the generator, make sure it is secure, then fit the pivot bolt without fastening it. Join the generator field circuit by placing the plug in the truck and then secure the B+ terminal nut and wire, tightening it to 9.8 Nm (85 ± 15 in. lbs.). Fix the belt back on the generator, make the T-bolt adjustment and tighten the belt again. Lower your vehicle, remove the jackstand from the radiator and put back the lower support of the radiator crossmember. Relocate the transmission cooler and add extra torque to its fasteners and finally install the lower plastic splash shield. Put the wheels on the ground and connect the negative battery cable. Then, ensure all bolts are fastened properly for your vehicle, according to the Torque Specifications chart.
