Dodge Intrepid Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Brake Booster on Dodge Intrepid?
    A:
Before taking out the power brake booster, pull out the battery ground cable from the ground stud on the right strut tower and use a cable isolator. Next, open the Wiper Arm caps to reach the holding nut and wiggle your wiper arm back and forth until its nut comes loose. Remove the covers for the wiper module and for the cowl and also the 9 bolts connecting the reinforcement to the vehicle's frame. Separate the wire connector from the sensor inside the right side of the reservoir and take out the two bolts attaching the master cylinder to the vacuum booster. Slide the master cylinder out leaving the Brake Lines connected and place it over the left engine cylinder head cover. Cut off the vacuum hose from the power brake booster check valve, but keep the check valve properly in place. From beneath the instrument panel, take out the retainer clip from the spot it holds the brake pedal pin. After removing it, throw away the old clip and prepare for the replacement. Improve your chances by finding out where you can find them in advance, since it might help make the repair process easier for you to do again. Turn the windshield wiper motor crank lever towards the top as if it's 12 on a clock. Then, move the power brake booster out of the dashboard. Power brake vacuum booster must remain assembled in one piece during all servicing. Put the power brake vacuum booster on the dash, tighten the 4 mounting nuts to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.) torque and check the connection. Apply Lubriplate or a similar lubricant on the booster end of the brake pedal pin, attach the booster input rod to the pin and fit a new retainer clip. Before attaching the master cylinder, place the under-hood wiring above the mounting studs next to the booster. Set the master cylinder into place, let the wire harness routing bracket attach to the proper stud and secure the 2 stud nuts to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.) torque. Following this, attach the brake fluid sensor connector again and link all the vacuum hoses so they are connected to the booster vacuum checking valve. Test the brake lamp switch and afterwards install the wiper module reinforcement by bolting it in with 8 screws and the wiper module fastener. Put the covers over both the wiper module and cowl; then tighten the screws firmly. Connect the negative terminal of the battery to the shock tower ground stud, turn the wipers on and then off to reset them and lastly screw the wipers onto their mounting points, adding the caps to cover the nuts. Be certain that the power brake booster and brake system work as expected.
  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Brake Booster on Dodge Intrepid?
    A:
First, take off the Battery Cable linked to the ground stud on the right strut tower and separate it from power and other wires with a cable isolator. After that, take the caps off the Wiper Arms to get to the nuts, carefully rock the wiper arms back and forth and pull them off. After removing the wiper module and cover and the cowl, detach the 8 bolts from the reinforcement to the strut towers and the 1 bolt holding the wiper module to the reinforcement before you take it out. Disconnect the wire at the brake fluid level sensor on the master cylinder reservoir's right side and take out the 2 nuts that hold the master cylinder to the vacuum booster. Gently take off the master cylinder from the vacuum booster, keeping the Brake Lines attached and rest it on the left engine cylinder head cover. Take off the vacuum hose from the power brake booster check valve but leave the check valve attached. To remove the old retainer clip, tilt the bonnet forward, use a screwdriver from under the instrument panel and unclip it from the pedal pin on the brake pedal. Get rid of the four nuts that hold the power brake booster to the vehicle's dash panel which are fitted underneath the steering column and the pedal bracket in the dash. Set the windshield wiper motor crank lever to 12 and after that, slide the power brake booster out of the dash panel. You should not disassemble the power brake vacuum booster, as all servicing should be done on the unit as one unit. Set the power brake vacuum booster onto the dash panel and tighten the four mounting nuts to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.) torque during installation. Apply lubriplate or an alternate lubricant to the part of the brake pedal pin facing the bearing, join the brake pedal pin to the booster input rod and put in a new retainer clip. Start by moving the under-hood wiring harness to the space above the mounting studs in front of the booster, before you install the master cylinder. Adjust the master cylinder on the booster, so the routing bracket is placed on the matching stud, attach the 2 mounting nuts and turn them to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.) torque. Attach the brake fluid level sensor connector and put all vacuum hoses on the metal booster vacuum check valve. Access the brake lamp switch to check its operation and after that, bolt the wiper module reinforcement in place using 9 bolts. Replace the covers over the wiper module and cowl and tighten the screws tightly. Next, connect the battery ground cable to the shock tower ground stud, operate the windshield wiper switch to allow them to settle into position and finally mount the wiper arms onto the pivots while tightening their nuts and covering with the caps. Make certain the power brake booster and brakes are operating properly.
