How to Remove and Replace a Piston Ring Set on Dodge Journey?

You should always remove the piston and connecting rod before changing the piston rings. Once this is done, open up the piston again using the ring expander tool to remove the first and second rings. Then, come off the upper oil ring side rail, take off the lower one afterward and lastly, get the oil ring expander out.
