Dodge Magnum TPMS Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a TPMS Sensor on Dodge Magnum?
    A:
Replace seal 2 and metal washer 1 at the bottom of the sensor valve stem 6 so the sensor seals properly. Wipe the area surrounding the sensor/valve stem hole in wheel 5 and ensure the surface is unharmed. While you insert the sensor into the wheel from the rear, ensure you are pushing on the rear of metal valve stem 2 and hold the sensor down on the sensor antenna strap. With the plant side facing away, point the sensor toward the wheel and tighten the sensor nut on top with the pressed washer 3. Lift up sensor housing 2 slightly and move wheel 1 with it until you feel it touch and match the interior of wheel 1. Holding the sensor steady, turn the sensor nut just to 8 Nm (71 in. lbs.), making sure not to turn it more than 12 Nm (106 in. lbs.) to prevent the sensor from leaving the valve stem. Set the sensor valve stem about 210° away from the front of the turntable, either the tire changer head or the installation end of the changer tool, keeping the sensor clear of the region where the breaker touches the tire. Set the air pressure to what it should be as shown on the Tire Inflation Pressure Label, while keeping the original style valve stem cap on the tire. Lift the wheel and its tire 1 and mount it on the car, tightening the wheel nuts 3 to 150-190 Nm (110-140 ft. lbs.), depending on the model. Drop the vehicle lower than usual, let it stay still for more than 19 minutes and then drive for 10 or more minutes keeping the vehicle's speed at 15 mph (24 km/h) or higher to help the system identify the new sensor. If a sensor cannot be successfully trained, the appropriate diagnostic information should be used.
