Open the liftgate and use a block or suitable support under it to steady the trunk or liftgate shock. Use only a light force on the lifting clip to prevent accidental and unsafe problems, since lifting the clip too hard might cause the clip springs to weakly hold the deck lid in place. Gently pry the retaining clip toward the outside and while you do so, pull the ball socket off the liftgate's ball stud using a small flat-bladed tool. With the first retaining clip installed, repeat everything on the second clip, unclip it and then remove the entire support cylinder from the top of the liftgate. Make sure the ball studs on the liftgate and the liftgate trough are working well and fitted firmly. Tighten them to 28 N.m (21 ft.lbs.) for installation. Put the ball socket onto the cylinder end of the support cylinder above the ball stud on the liftgate opening trough, then press it in place until the retainer clip snaps securely. Carry out this process with the support rod end and the ball stud on the liftgate. Ensure the retaining clip on the ends of each support cylinder ball socket is in place, detach the prop or block and, once the platform is clear, close the liftgate.
