  The first step to servicing the exhaust manifold is to detach the negative terminal from the battery and then lift the car on a hoist. Unscrew the bolt connecting the heat shield to the support bracket and then the bracket itself will fall off. After that, take out the fasteners joining the flex joint and the exhaust manifold flange and move the entire exhaust system back to get past the flange studs. Raise the vehicle and take out the make-up air hose from the rear edge of the cylinder head cover. If you have it, remove the speed control vacuum reservoir and then disconnect the oxygen sensor connector as well as the attached clip. To get to the manifold bolts, first loosen the attaching bolts on the heat shield and remove the upper heat shield. Then, unscrew the manifold's bolts and lift the manifold from the top of your vehicle between the cylinder head and the cowl. Place the exhaust manifold and gasket position, set the manifold bolts and tighten them in the right order to reach 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.). Put both the upper and lower heat shield on the exhaust manifold, secure them with their bolts and tighten the bolts to 11 Nm (95 inch lbs.). Adhere the oxygen sensor connector and dip into place and when needed, reinstall the speed control vacuum reservoir. Attach the make-up air hose to the cylinder head cover port. Hold the vehicle on the lift, set a replacement flex joint on the manifold flange gasket, hook the exhaust system to the manifold flange and fasten each connection to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.). After putting in the exhaust manifold support, tighten its fasteners and then add the bolt that connects the wire harness heat shield to the bracket. Raise the vehicle, secure the negative cable to the battery and put the vehicle back on the ground.
