The radiator is an important part of cooling system in Dodge Nitro automobiles and its main function is to expel heat from the antifreeze that circulates in the engine. It serves the function of a heat exchanger here by transferring heat from fluid within its core of the engine to air circulating around it. The core of Dodge Nitro radiator usually consist of an aluminum tube or tank, and the external tanks might be of plastic or aluminum but there are some models with copper/brass. Over the years performance radiators have been developed as an upgrade known as welded tanks made of lightweight aluminum and provides better heat transfer. The typical performance radiator may have bigger tubes in comparison to standard ones and a higher number of fins which lead to a better flow of the coolant and correspondently, better heat exchange. Dodge Nitro utilizes both direct fit and universal kinds of radiators though depends with the type of application and performance desired.

Dodge Nitro Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Prevent Overheating When Installing a Radiator on Dodge Nitro?
    A:
Fasten the rubber air seals around the top, bottom and sides of the radiator before attaching the radiator or A/C Condenser, so that overheating can be prevented. Place the radiator and fan shroud in the vehicle's front opening and steer the two radiator alignment dowels into the rubber grommets in the lower radiator crossmember. Join the radiator upper and lower hoses together, while aligning the tangs on the clamps in a straight downward position. Secure the radiator bolts and then hook back up the electric cooling fan connector. Place the Grille on your car and set the cooling fan back in the engine compartment if you have it. Spin the fan blades with your hands to look for any problems at the fan shroud. The combination coolant recovery/washer fluid reservoir assembly should be installed for KA and KK vehicles. Set the coolant reserve/overflow tank hose to the radiator, return the coolant to the system and join the negative Battery Cable. Run the engine and make sure it does not leak.
