Dodge Nitro Steering Column Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How is the Steering Column Installed on Dodge Nitro?
    A:
You should place the steering column into position in the steering coupler for the initial alignment. After that, install the column harness and link it to the switches and next, direct the shifter interlock cable under the tie straps. Put the column in place over the mounting studs and then use your fingers to tighten up the mounting nuts and bolts. Always tighten the lower nuts first and then the upper nuts, so you do not harm the capsules. Make sure the lower mounting nuts reach 17 Nm (150 in. lbs.) and the upper mounting nuts reach the same torque. Put in the steering column coupler bolt and tighten it at 53 Nm (39 ft. lbs.), before reconnecting the shifter interlock cable. Supply the Clock Spring, then center it and add it to the column. Connect the upper and lower column shrouds and set screws into place. Put the steering column opening cover into place. When installing the Steering Wheel, replace the old bolt, make sure the bolt is tight and tighten it to the right torque based on the manual. Plug the steering wheel into its mount and tighten the bolt to the value noted in the manual (usually 54 Nm or 40 ft. lbs.). If your vehicle includes cruise control, join the clock spring harness to the cruise control switch harness. At last, put in the Air Bag and reattach the negative cable to the battery.
