Dodge Ram 1500 Cruise Control Servo Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install the Cruise Control Servo Located Beneath the Battery Tray on Dodge Ram 1500?
    A:
The speed control servo assembly is installed at the bottom of the tray that holds the main battery. Make sure to take out the negative Battery Cable first. Disconnect the plastic wheelhouse splash shield around the left-front wheel to reach the servo. Also, unplug the vacuum line and the electrical connector from the servo and then remove the three bolts holding it in place, checking where to mount each lug, depending on your engine type. Unplug the servo cable from the Throttle Body and take out the two mounting nuts that hold the sleeve onto the bracket. Pull both the sleeve of the speed control cable and the servo away from the bracket where they are mounted to access and take out the cable retaining clip. Lift the servo from the mounting bracket while paying attention to its position. While holding the servo against the mounting bracket and lining the hole in the cable connector with the servo's pin, install the cable-to-servo retaining clip. Seat each servo mounting stud into an opening of the mounting bracket and add each nut. Tighten them to the specified torque standards. Put the servo assembly in the right place on the Battery Tray and fasten it with three screws, using the given tightness specification. After that, make sure to connect the hoses and wires back at the servo and plug the servo cable into the throttle body. After that, put on the left-front wheel-well liner again and attach the negative battery cable. Before starting, take a moment to press the accelerator pedal and see if there's any resistance.
  • Q: How to Remove the Cruise Control Servo from a 4.7L V-8 Engine on Dodge Ram 1500?
    A:
The acceleration-control servo that goes with the 4.7L V-8 engine is found at the bottom of the Battery Tray. First, remove the negative cable from the battery and if the car is a diesel, unplug both cables. The servo is found underneath the splash shield to the left over the front wheel. After that, take out the vacuum line and the electrical connector from the servo. Unscrew the three servo mounting screws and be sure to remember the proper mounting lugs used for your engine, as they may not be the same as in other cases. Cut the servo cable from the Throttle Body and pull out the two nuts that hold the sleeve to the bracket. Slide the speed control cable sleeve and servo sideways from the bracket until the retaining clip is easy to remove. Lastly, disconnect the servo from its bracket and notice the way the servo faced before you removed it.
