The item under consideration is EGR Valve which is installed in Dodge Ram 1500 cars, and its function is to recirculate the exhaust gases to the combustion chamber to minimize pollution. This technique known as the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) reduction of nitrogen oxides as combustion temperature is reduced by circulating exhaust gas. The modern developments of the EGR technology has evolved from simple orifice jets to the valves that self-control depending on the conditions of the engine. Even though there are engines, such as the Chrysler Pentastar 3.6, that do not necessarily have an EGR, this gadget still plays a critical role in the emission systems and engine performance in the contemporary automobiles. As expected, there is always need to perform periodic servicing, for instance, cleaning or replacement of blocked EGR valves.

Dodge Ram 1500 EGR Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install and Service an EGR Valve on Dodge Ram 1500?
    A:
The EGR Air Flow Control Valve (5) is fixed to the end of the air intake linkage piece (2). First, get a new gasket (3) and check that the top of the air flow control valve and bottom of the air intake are clean. After that, fit the four mounting bolts (4) and (6) and tighten them to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.) (160 in. lbs.). Attach the electrical connector to terminal point (2) and fasten the air cooler duct to the under-side of the valve so that the duct clamp is secure.
  • Q: How to Remove the EGR Valve and Solenoid Assembly from the Engine on Dodge Ram 1500?
    A:
The exhaust gas routing tube connects the EGR valve to the Intake Manifold, whilst the electronic EGR valve and solenoid assembly is mounted to the rear (front crankcase pulley) of the left cylinder head. First remove the two tube mounting bolts. Then detach the tube from the solenoid and slide the other end of the tube from the intake manifold. Take out the gasket inbetween the EGR valve solenoid and the tube flange. After that, disconnect the electrical connector at the solenoid and remove the two EGR valve solenoid mounting bolts. Last, remove the solenoid out of the engine and toss the gasket below the EGR solenoid.
