How to Properly Install and Service a Leaf Spring on Dodge Ram 1500?

You should support and raise the vehicle first and afterwards, secure the axle with a proper support. Take off the plate, nuts and spring clamp bolts that hold the spring to the axle, next remove the nuts and bolts from the spring shackle and finally take the spring out of the vehicle. Put the spring on the axle shaft tube so that the spring's center bolt fits into the pin hole on the axle shaft. Make sure the spring's front edge fits over the bolt hole in the front bracket before screwing in the eye pivot bolt and nut. After that, fit the rear of the spring into the shackle and put on the bolt and nut. At first, tighten both the spring front and rear eye pivot bolts firmly without over-tightening and then set the spring clamp bolts, plate and the retaining nuts as well. Unfix the holding fixture for the rear axle and remove the supports, then gently lower the vehicle so it's being supported by the tires. Make sure you tighten the spring clamp retaining nuts to 149 Nm (110 ft. lbs.) and the pivot bolt nuts to 163 Nm (120 ft. lbs.).
