Before servicing or repairing the exhaust manifold, take out the negative cable from the battery and lift the car. Loosen the exhaust pipe from the manifold, life the car up and take away the exhaust heat shields. Next, undo the bolts, nuts and washers that are holding the manifold onto the cylinder head and lift the manifold off the engine's head. Clean the parts that the gaskets cover using solvent and then blow them dry with compressed air after cleaning. Visually check for cracks in the manifold and place a straight edge on the mating surfaces to make sure they are within 0.2 mm per 300 mm (0.008 in. per foot) from being flat. Should any stud fall out during removal with the nuts, screw in replacements on the rougher side and cover with sealer. Then, place the exhaust manifolds onto the studs, add conical washers and nuts to these studs and tighten them with the wrench. Use two bolts with conical washers at the far ends of the outboard manifold arms and fasten two bolts without washers to the center gun arm. Check the bolts and nuts first in the center arm and after that, tighten everything to a torque of 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) in order working outwards. After securing the exhaust heat shields, raise the vehicle and join the exhaust pipe to the manifold, using bolts, nuts and retainers. Make sure to tighten them to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.). After that, pull the hoist lever to lower the car and secure the negative cable to the battery.
