As part of servicing or changing exhaust system components, disconnect the oxygen sensor connections so the system doesn't get damaged. First, remove the negative battery cable and then raise the car and prop it up safely. Take out the tailpipe hanger rods from the insulators at the front and rear and the tailpipe to muffler exhaust clamp. Before removing the tailpipe, heat the muffler to tailpipe connection with an oxygen/acetylene torch. Before you install, use an air hose to remove any debris from both the muffler and pipes' end sealing areas. Place the tailpipe in the muffler and then finger tighten the nuts onto the clamp bolt. Push the rods from the tailpipe hangers into the insulators, check that the exhaust is aligned and secure the muffler clamp bolts tightly at 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.). After the alignment is done, put the vehicle on the ground, check for any leaks from the exhaust and make sure the exhaust system is not touching the body panels.
