When you do a 42RLE Automatic Transmission fluid and filter service, add only Mopar® ATF+4 Automatic Transmission Fluid to the transmission sump and make sure to replace the filter while also cleaning the magnet inside the
Oil Pan with a dry, clean cloth. In case the transmission is taken apart, exchange the fluid and the filter. Raise the vehicle on a hoist first and then place a container below the transmission oil pan. Factory-installed sealing patches cover one of the oil pan bolts and these should be separated and saved for use again. Loosen the bolts along the pan and hit one edge to release the pan, letting the extra fluid drain, then remove the oil pan. Drop a new filter and O-ring into the bottom of the valve body and tighten the retaining screws to 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.). Before you set the bolt in its proper hole, repack the sealing patch on the bolt with Mopar Lock & Seal Adhesive. Wash the oil pan and magnet, secure the magnet to the oil pan and use new Mopar® Silicone Adhesive to attach and seal the oil pan. Tighten the bolts on the oil pan to 20 Nm (14.5 ft. lbs.). Slowly pour four quarts of ATF+4, open the hood and start the car. Leave the engine on for at least 60 seconds. Apply the parking and service brakes and then, using the selector lever, go to every position, stopping in park or neutral. First, verify the level of fluid in the transmission and bring it down so the amount shown on the dipstick is 3mm below the lowest mark. Make sure the fluid is at the correct amount after the transmission has reached its normal operating temperature of 82°C. At about 180°F, dip the dipstick all the way in to the opening to keep dirt out of the transmission.
