How to Safely Detach the Instrument Cluster on Dodge Ram 3500?

Before you start getting rid of the instrument panel, be sure to disconnect the negative battery cable, isolate it and wait two minutes for the air bag system capacitor to empty. First, take the negative battery cable off and then free the front seat assembly from its brackets. After that, remove the left a-pillar trim and disconnect the wire harness connector located at the a-pillar. This next step is to remove the top cover from the instrument panel and the left cowl trim panel. Next, take off the steering column along with the bolts that bind the steering column support bracket to the instrument panel. Pull out the valve handle and unplug the wire harness connector from the instrument bulkbhead connector. Use a trim stick C-4755 or something similar to take off the left instrument panel side cover from the notch at the base. Take out the three bolts that hold the left side of the instrument panel to the dash and if you have a floor console, also remove that. Should the air bag control module have a cover, remove it and release the electrical connector. Remove the bolts connecting the instrument panel to the center of the floor panel first and then take of the right cowl trim cover. Take out the two instrument panel connectors from the body connectors on the right side of the cowl panel and disconnect the antenna cable connector from the coaxial radio connector. Untwist the only bolt holding the instrument panel to the HVAC housing beneath the glove box and then take out the right a-pillar piece. Take the right side panel cover away using a trim stick C-4755 or a similar aid. Release the three bolts on the right side instrument panel bracket from the dash panel, then remove four screws fastening the instrument panel to the cowl panel. Make sure to pull the side carpet back on the passenger side as needed to get at the air bag module wires. With help, remove the instrument panel from its place on the cowl and if you need to, remove the four plastic inserts from the top of the cowl.
