Disarm the air bag system before beginning service on the steering column so that a surprise air bag deployment cannot hurt anyone. All fasteners should be tightened following the correct torque for them to work correctly. Put the steering column into position on the dash panel support, then loosely install nuts 1 and 3. Move the steering column up along the studs in the dash panel and tighten the nuts with your hands. Secure the coupler to the steering shaft, then gently install a fresh bolt into it. Slide the steering column into the opening in the dashboard and secure nuts 1 and 3 with 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.); tighten the top nut on the left, then the bottom one on the right and finally the top nut on the other side. It is necessary to use a new bolt to screw back the cover. Apply 4 to 57 Nm (42 ft. lbs.) of force when tightening the coupler bolt. Replace the
Brake Light Switch 2, connect the shifter cable 5 and link the wiring harness 8 to the column. Attach the
Clock Spring, put in the shrouds 1 and 2 and line up the spline on the
Wheel Hub with the shaft. Put in a new bolt, then tighten the
Steering Wheel to 61 Nm (or about 45 ft. lbs.). Place in the air bag, the tilt lever knob 2, the steering column opening cover 1 and the kneeblocker 2. After that, connect the negative terminal to the battery and try out the horn, the Electronic Prndl Indicator, vehicle lights and everything controlled by the steering column.
