Dodge Ram 3500 radiator is one of the complex parts in the vehicle as it is responsible for controlling the excessive heat generated in the engine. When the engine is running, it produces so much heats and when this heats are not regulated, results in failure of the engine. The radiator as applied in the Dodge Ram 3500 works by permitting the coolant to soaks this extra heat and then discharge it on the framework of the radiator. This is made possible through circulation of cool air, probably by the use of a radiator fan, on a surface of the radiator whereby the said material is usually aluminium to enable proper heat exchange. With time, there has been changes in the Radiator design and the materials used where mainly Copper and brass have been used but in the present models, aluminum is used in the Dodge Ram 3500 radiator. This change however not only reduces the weight of the car radiator but also travels a long way in terms of costs. This is made even better through the radiators' design to possess multiple fins to enhance heat exchange with the environment since they contribute to the increased size. This makes maintaining the Dodge Ram 3500 radiator very important because they so often develop leakage problems as a result of wear or external damage often occasioned by particles on the road or as a result of the use of winter salts. Also, internal corrosion can take place due to some contamination of the coolant fluid used in the working process of the engine. However, to optimize the performance of Dodge Ram 3500 radiator and also extend its life span it advised that periodic checks such as leaks and coolant system flushing be observed.

Dodge Ram 3500 Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Radiator on a 3.7L/4.7L/5.7L Engine on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
Before changing the radiator on these engines, confirm that both the alignment dowel on the bottom of the outlet tank and the retaining bracket on the inlet tank's front are present, with rubber insulators. Place the fan shroud over the blades, close to the engine and then attach the rubber insulators to the lowers part of the radiator's mount. Set the radiator into its place, letting the alignment dowel slide into the vertical post bracket and fixing the lower bracket onto the lower closure tube. Place the upper bolts for the radiator and tighten them to a pressure of 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.). Attach the left end of the lower radiator hose and secure it with a clamp and then connect both steering hoses to the oil cooler and add the clamps. After that, hook up the transmission oil cooler lines to the cooler itself and secure the secondary latches in position. Lift the fan shroud and fit the strapping clips over the radiator caps; then screw and tighten each bolt to a torque of 8 Nm (75 in. lbs.). Put the Power Steering Hose into the clip attached to the lower fan shroud, add the windshield Washer Reservoir tank and connect the hose and electric connector. Attach each hose for the reserve/overflow container to the radiator filler neck and fasten it with a clamp. Then, fit the coolant reserve/overflow container or degas container to the fan shroud and tighten all bolts to 8 Nm (75 in. lbs.). Attach the upper radiator hose and slide on the clamp and next, put the battery negative cable in place. Top up the coolant tank and start the engine until it gets to its proper operating temperature, then take a look at the fluid levels in the cooling system.
  • Q: How to Install a Radiator on a 3.7L/4.7L/5.7L Engine on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
For installing the radiator on a 3.7L/4.7L/5.7L engine, make sure the fan shroud is fitted above the Fan Blades and flipped rearward towards the engine first. Attach the rubber insulators to the bottom mounting features on the radiator, so that the alignment dowel fits in the hole on the front-end sheet metal vertical support post and the face bracket rests inside the lower radiator closure tube. Lift the radiator and guide its alignment dowel into the vertical post bracket while sitting the lower radiator support bracket on the closure tube. Place the bolts in the back of the upper radiator mount and tighten them so the torque is 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.). Add the lower hose to the radiator, pin it in place with a clamp and also clamp the power steering lines to the power steering oil cooler. Link the transmission oil cooler lines to the transmission oil cooler and hold them in place with secondary fasteners. Slide the fan shroud into the clips that are part of the radiator tanks and fasten them with bolts, giving them a tightness of 8 Nm (75 in. lbs.). Position the Power Steering Hoses in the clip on the lower fan shroud and put in the windshield Washer Reservoir tank, connecting the hose and electric line. Link the coolant reserve/overflow container hose(s) to the radiator filler neck, seal them with clamps and fit the coolant reserve/overflow container or degas container to the fan shroud, fasten all the bolts to 8 Nm (75 in. lbs.). Tie the upper radiator hose to the engine and then attach the clamp to it. Finally, install the battery negative cable. Fill the cooling system with coolant, run the engine until it is at normal temperature and examine the fluid levels in the cooling system.
