    How to service and repair a Transmission Oil Cooler (water-to-oil) on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
    The starter must be removed and then the two battery negative cables are disconnected before servicing the water-to-oil cooler. The cooling system drain and disconnect the coolant lines from the cooler. Use back up wrench on the transmission cooler fittings while doing this to prevent damage. After that, remove the transmission oil lines from the cooler and plug up the cooler lines. To remove the cooler assembly from the vehicle, take out the cooler bracket to transmission adapter bolt, and the two cooler bracket to block bolts. To install the oil cooler, position the oil cooler on the cylinder block and install the lower mounting bolt to a torque of 77 Nm (57 ft. lbs.). Now, install the upper mounting bolt to a torque of 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Reconnect the cooler bracket to the bolt of the transmission adapter and tighten to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs) using a back up wrench on the transmission cooler fittings again. Join the transmission oil lines and coolant hoses to the cooler, refit the starter motor and reattach the battery negative leads. Last of all, fill the cooling system and check the transmission oil level and top up as required.
