For servicing the coil spring, first lift and hold the vehicle and then take off the wheel and tire. Then, unclip the disc brake caliper from the steering knuckle, pull out the lower suspension arm and its attachments and take away the shock absorber. Slide the DD-1278 Spring Compressor down through the lower suspension arm, coil spring and into the shock hole in the body, making sure the bell shape touches the suspension arm. Tighten the spring compressor on the bell-shaped adapter, just a quarter turn loose it after the lower arm is separated from the steering knuckle. Remove the cotter pin and lower ball joint nut at the steering knuckle, then put Ball Joint Remover C-3564-A over the lower ball joint, turning the threads to lock it. First, use the tool to push the lower ball joint out and then use a hammer to give a sharp strike to the steering knuckle to start to loosen the joint. After putting away the spring compressor, move the lower suspension arm down and pull out the coil spring and isolator pad. Place the isolator pad on the coil spring's top edge and work the spring into the arm attach, making certain the flat end is at the top and the ramped end is at the bottom. Gently insert Spring Compressor DD-1278, turn the tool nut to compress the coil spring and place the lower ball joint into the steering knuckle. Secure the retaining nut onto the lower ball joint, fastening it to 135 ft. lbs. (183 Nm) if it is LD 11/16 bolt or 175 ft. lbs. (237 Nm) for HD 3/4 bolt and set in the new cotter pins after. Attach the strut bar again, take out the spring compressor tool and put in the stabilizer bar, shock absorber and disc brake caliper. After everything is done, take the wheel and tire assembly and fit it onto the car.
