Start by draining part of the cooling system to avoid any injuries from hot, pressurized coolant when adding to or removing the ECT Sensor. A sensor is found in the water jacket right at the front of the intake manifold, close to the back of the generator. You will be able to access the sensor on a 5.2L/5.9L V-8 without removing the cover or housing, but both have to be removed for a 3.9L V-6. Start by taking off the negative battery cable. With the 3.9L V-6, take off the cover on the engine and also the air cleaner housing. Use a small mirror to locate the sensor connector, then take the electrical connector apart by using an L-shaped tool shaped from a coat hanger. A little before taking the sensor, drain the cooling system partly. Please ensure that your new sensor goes into the intake manifold and is attached with a torque of 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs). Plug the electrical connector into the sensor; you can place it in either direction because the sensor is symmetrical. If lost coolant is found, replace it and, in the case of the 3.9L V-6, add back the engine cover and air cleaner housing. After that, attach the negative battery cable again.
