The maintenance of the exhaust pipe starts by taking out the battery negative cable and lifting the vehicle off the ground. Clear the tailpipe hanger rods from the front and rear mount insulators and then take out the tailpipe to muffler exhaust clamp. Before you remove the tailpipe, heat the muffler to tailpipe joint with an oxygen/acetylene torch. All the time you install the tailpipe, thoroughly clean the ends of the pipes and muffler and make sure they are clean to mate well before screwing the nuts just tight onto the clamp bolt fingers. Place the tailpipe hanger rods in the insulators, check that the exhaust system is in line and tighten the rear clamp nuts to 43 Nm. Lastly, put the vehicle down onto the ground, start it and look for leaks in the exhaust as well as any contact between the components and the outside of the car, fixing the alignment if needed.
