Dodge Ram 3500 Van Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the fuel rail assembly on Dodge Ram 3500 Van?
    A:
You need to purge the system of natural gas before removing the fuel rail assembly. First, take off the engine cover and empty the fuel system too. Then, remove the air cleaner housing at the throttle body and separate the fuel injector electrical harness at as many points as there are injectors, each with a label of its engine cylinder number. At the MAP sensor, IAC motor, TPS, fuel pressure sensor, low-pressure fuel solenoid and fuel temperature sensor, disconnect the electrical connectors. Take out the low-pressure fuel line from the low-pressure fuel shut-off solenoid and note the way the copper washer (gasket) sits inside the fuel line. Start by taking out the throttle body assembly and the three air conditioning compressor support bracket bolts and then unscrew the four fuel rail-to-intake manifold mounting bracket bolts. Rock and tug each half of the fuel rail until there is no fuel in the intake manifold and then lift the fuel rail with the injectors. When possible, remove the pieces that keep the injectors attached to the fuel rail. Before installing the injectors, wash them and apply a small amount of Parker(TM) O-lube to every fuel injector O-ring and the opening in the intake manifold, always checking to see that you are not mixing CNG and gasoline powered O-rings. Set the rail/injector assembly over the injector openings on the manifold and carefully guide each injector in until it's in position without damaging the O-rings. Push down both halves of the fuel railway to locate the injectors, then snap in the bolts to hold it firmly in place and the A/C brace if you have it. Place a new copper washer (gasket) between the two parts, attach the fuel line and secure it with 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) torque, making sure no fuel injector connectors are blocked at cylinders # 6 and # 8. Attach the throttle body assembly to its brackets, plug in the fuel injector electrical harness and link the wiring again at the fuel low-pressure sensor, fuel temperature sensor and low-pressure fuel shutoff solenoid. You should also link the electrical connectors at the MAP sensor, IAC motor and TPS. Next, look for any gas coming out of the fuel gas line, fit the air cleaner around the throttle body and drop the engine cover back into place.
