Before you start working on the starter motor, unplug the negative cable and then lift and prop up the vehicle. Remove the nut and companion lock washer that connects the starter motor to the housing mounting stud. Pull forward the cooler tube bracket and off the stud so the starter motor mounting flange can come off. While you're supporting the starter motor, take out the upper starter mounting bolt and push the starter motor farther towards the front until the nose of the starter pinion housing goes over the transmission housing. Be sure to hold the starter motor, so it doesn't fall towards the harness. Place the nozzle downwards and bring the starter motor lower to unseat and unbolt the nut holding the battery cable connector eyelet to the solenoid battery terminal stud and remove the eyelet from the stud. Release the battery connection from the solenoid and withdraw the starter from the place it is attached to the engine. To install, put the starter motor on the transmission housing and join the battery cable solenoid terminal wire harness connector with the connector receptacle on the starter solenoid. Twist the battery cable eyelet terminal onto the B(+) terminal of the starter solenoid and put the nut on it to tighten the terminal cable to 13.6 Nm (120 in. lbs.). Position the starter motor over the stud, place the tube bracket for the automatic transmission cooler rearward over the starter motor flange and snugly install the washer, bolt and nut. Once that's done, tighten the bolt and nut to 67.8 Nm (50 ft. lbs.). When finished, drive the car to the ground and attach the negative cable to the battery.
