After pulling out the negative terminal of the battery, give the capacitor two minutes to discharge before you remove the steering wheel. Move the front wheels straight. Pull the driver air bag out of the steering wheel and unplug the steering wheel wire harness connectors from the receptacles in the upper Clock Spring. Remove the screw fixing the steering wheel armature to the top of the steering column shaft inside the steering wheel. Use the C-3428-B steering wheel puller, checking that all screws are well engaged and that the puller stays on the upper shaft spline without harming the Clock Spring as you pull the wheel off the steering shaft. To install, replace the steering wheel onto the upper shaft of the steering column and line up the rubber booted dowel with the area between the lower surface of the steering wheel hub and the two fins on the steering column rotor. Conduct the upper Clock Spring pigtail wire through the upper hole found between the steering wheel back trim cover and the steering wheel armature. Secure the upper shaft screw to the steering wheel with 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) of torque, making sure not to pull on or damage either the Clock Spring pigtail wire nor the steering wheel wire harness. Next, reconnect the two steering wheel wire harness connectors to the upper Clock Spring receptacles, ensuring the wire harness is routed correctly, and finally, reinstall the driver air bag onto the steering wheel.
