Jeep Brake Proportioning Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Proportioning Valve on Jeep Wrangler?
    A:
First, separate the brake lines moving fluid from the master cylinder to the combination valve and then separate the other set of brake lines from the combination valve to the front and rear brakes. After that, remove the wire from the combination valve switch terminal and remove the lock tabs carefully so they don't damage anything. Unscrew the nuts between the combination valve bracket and the booster studs and then pull off the bracket. Place the bracket of the valve on the booster studs and use a torque wrench to tighten the nuts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Before tightening the brake lines to the valve and cylinder, line them up by hand to avoid cross threading. Tighten the brake line fittings at each location to 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.). Afterwards, attach the wire to the differential pressure switch in the combination valve and bleed the base brake mechanics.
  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Proportioning Valve on Jeep Liberty?
    A:
Before serving or repairing the Brake Proportioning/Combination Valve, attach a prop rod to the brake pedal to keep brake pressure. After that, release the brake lines from the junction block, then unscrew the mounting nuts and bolt to remove the junction block. Mounting is done by fixing the junction block onto the studs and tightening the nuts and bolt to 14 Nm (125 inch lbs.). Then, screw the brake lines onto the junction block and tighten them to 20 Nm (180 inch lbs.). After all these steps, it's important to bleed the ABS brake system.
