The use of the Brake Proportioning Valve in Jeep Wrangler automobiles assist in the braking system to regulate or control the proportion of fluid pressures required to stop the vehicle. Its main role is to control the amount of pressure exerted on the front disc brakes and the rear drum brakes in a bid to avoid front brakes locking up, and rear ones engaging in a sudden stop. This is done by being able to regulate the brake fluid pressure supplied to the rear brakes which inevitably improves vehicle control and safety. Different models of Jeep Wrangler vehicles have used several types of Brake Proportioning Valves in the course of the years, all of these being specifically tailored to meet the braking requirements of the given model. The main difference that differentiates these types from one another is in their capacity for changing pressure according to the difference needs of a disc and a drum brake.

Jeep Wrangler Brake Proportioning Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Proportioning Valve on Jeep Wrangler?
    A:
To service or repair the combination valve, stop the lines between the master cylinder and the combination valve and then remove the lines linking the combination valve to both the front and rear brakes. Following this, remove the wire from the combination valve switch area by unlocking the lock tabs on both ends. Take off the nuts holding the combination valve bracket to the booster studs and then withdraw the bracket from the engine. While fitting the valve, attach the bracket to the booster studs and tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Seat the connectors in both the master cylinder and the combination valve at the same time and tighten the nuts by hand until the brake connector calibrates; next, tighten the Brake Line fittings on each connecter to 19 Nm (14 ft lbs.) After that, run the wire to the differential pressure switch in the combination valve and flush out any residue in the base brake lines.
