How to Service a Coolant Temperature Sensor on Jeep Cherokee?

Before you service the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor, empty some of the coolant to avoid contact with hot, pressurized liquid. The sensor is installed inside of the thermostat. Take out the cooling wire connector from the coolant temperature sensor and remove the sensor from inside the thermostat housing. During installation, use sealant on the threads of the new sensor, since it may already be treated with sealant. Put the coolant temperature sensor in the thermostat housing and tighten it until it reaches a torque of 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.). Attach the wire connector back and put more coolant in the system.
